America
We only know want.
It’s tax day in America, which is the day when I begrudgingly take checks in large sums to the post office and pay. Again. Despite having shelled out other large sums each quarter. This is what it is like to be self-employed. You work really hard and then hand over several months worth of work to things you don’t want to support: like war.
And yet, we still have so much.
America
There are only
a few times
when you’ll ever
need. That's
what it means
to be born
to a nice family
with some money
in America. Need
is not something
you know. You only
know: want.
Fair
Like you also haven’t gotten
more than you deserved,
benefitted greatly,
shown mercy,
luck handed to you.
Think then not of fair,
but of all the times
you have been
on the good side
of unfair, and then
extend that grace too.
