Empire
We could have had it all.
There was a time when my husband was a personal trainer and not a plumber. Before the iPhone, before social media. He had all the certifications, was great at his job, and had clients who drove Lamborghinis and gave us tickets to the Super Bowl. A decade later I became a running coach, built a social media presence, started hosting running retreats.
We’ve often lamented the fact that our fitness endeavors never overlapped. We could have built something big together.
For many reasons, I’m grateful it didn’t work out.
Empire
We could have built an empire,
he says. As if it would
have been so easy if
we’d know then what
we know now. Perhaps,
but what would that mean
for now if we had?
Making nachos on a
Monday night, our boys
out the front, sprawled
on the grass.
Our girl in and out of
the kitchen with a question
and another.
What of this empire of love?
